Walk-In Freezers

Walk-in freezers are used within restaurants, institutional kitchens, convenience stores, and any other business that requires a large refrigeration space.

Walk-in freezers come in a number of sizes, though most tend to be from 1 ˝ to 5 tons. Generally, restaurants select the 3 ton option. All of these systems are made from pre-fabricated walls and ceilings, and they all come with some type of insulated floor. In fact, the floor of the unit might be the most important part of the whole thing. You will want to find a unit that is durable, yet lightweight at the same time. Aluminum is a great material to look for when it comes to seeking out that optimal base section. Whether or not you can place this kind of freezing unit inside of your space is a matter that must take a bit of careful consideration.

In order for the unit that you choose to work properly, it must have optimal space. Additionally, consider placing the condensing coil outside rather than inside. Coils that are placed outside greatly improve the overall efficiency of the system. If you want to save money when it comes to that energy bill, this might be hard with an industrial system. Unlike home systems, these units tend to take a lot of energy to run. Still, you can shop around in order to look for the one unit that uses less electricity. No matter what kind of system you decide upon, make sure to have it professionally installed inside of your space.

Some restaurant owners try and install an industrial unit on their own. Often, they are met with disaster when attempting to install this system on their own time. Walk-in freezers require a lot of space, proper flooring, and proper electrical installation. Generally, the best way to ensure that your freezer works as it should work is to hire a contractor to install it for you. Hiring a contractor will also ensure that your food stays at a safe temperature. Speaking of safe temperature, owning a restaurant can be tricky when it comes to keeping food at the right temperature all the time. Why? Since you will be walking in and out of that unit all day long, the door to the unit may stay open longer than it should.

In order to combat possible food poisoning, make sure that the door stays shut at all times…even when people are inside of it. This brings us to another important point – make sure to purchase a system that includes lights. You don’t want to be stuck inside of a walk-in without any kind of light around you. Lastly, take the time to shop around for the right shelving. Some units are built better than others when it comes to shelves that are spacious and well built.

It isn’t too hard to find many walk-in freezers that will do the job properly. However, finding the one that is perfect for your space will take a bit of planning, measuring, and comparing.
