Types of Freezers

Trying to understand the different types of freezers on the market can be a daunting task. Before you buy any kind, make sure that you know what to look for.

While they all perform the same basic task, the numerous types of freezers actually work differently. While some people may be perfectly find with an upright freezer, others may find that a chest freezer is what they are looking for. Not sure what the difference is between a chest and an upright? That’s ok…this article will help you to decipher all of that tricky freezer terminology in no time. Just sit back, put your feet up, and start thinking about the kinds of frozen foods that you normally like to keep on hand…

Let’s begin with the upright. These freezers look just like your home refrigerator, but they tend to be slightly larger. Uprights have one or two doors, they stand on their own (upright), and they can easily fit into any kitchen space. In fact, if you have a limited amount of floor space an upright is the perfect freezer for you. These units can be placed next to your home refrigerator creating an extra freezing compartment for all of those frozen goods. Next, let’s talk about those chest models…they are a just a bit different from those uprights.

Chest models tend to take up a lot of floor space. However, chest freezers can also hold many more items than an upright can. Additionally, chest freezers can prevent a large amount of cold air from escaping every time you open the door. For this reason, many homeowners choose chest models. Chest freezers can come with lift out or sliding containers. Out of all the types of freezers, the chest model is the most popular with homeowners that are looking for some extra space. These units can hold a couple of whole turkeys, while other units cannot…it all depends upon what you are looking for.

The refrigerator-freezer combo is a model that you will come across a lot. This type of freezer is attached to your refrigerator. Sometimes, you will find the freezer section attached to the side of the refrigerator, and other times it will come in the form of a pull out drawer. In fact, most people have refrigerator-freezer combos inside of their home. These units can store a lot of food, though they will require an adequate amount of space inside of your kitchen (the doors to these models can be quite hard to open and shut within a small space).

See how easy it is to understand the different types of freezers out there? As you begin to shop, you will find that some freezers are perfect for your home, while others are less than desirable. Take the time to compare each unit that you come across in order to find the one that is right for you.
