Dorm Refrigerators
When it comes to making that college packing list, don’t forget to consider a few different types of dorm refrigerators. These compact appliances are great when it comes to making your space feel like home.
There is nothing quite as comforting as being able to pull out a cold drink from your own personal fridge. Nearly every college student has some type of fridge in their room, but some are better than others. These machines have come a long way from their simpler days when they were really just open boxes that could be used for cooling. Today’s dorm refrigerators come in a number of shapes and sizes, and some even come with useful features.
Your parents may be paying for your fridge, so let’s talk about cost for a moment. You can purchase a mini fridge for around $50, though this will be a basic model. Or, you can buy one that costs up to $300 dollars and holds nearly everything that you could ever want. Though it may seem as though hundreds of dollars is a lot to spend on a fridge, some luxury models can reach up to $1000. So, the question at hand is: how much use will your fridge get? If you only want to use it to hold leftovers and a few, um, sodas, then a basic model will do. However, if you plan on eating every meal inside of your room, a more expensive model is ideal.
Next, consider the size of the unit. Most dorm rooms are rather small, so look at those compact dorm refrigerators in order to share the space with your roommate nicely. Then again, if you plan on sharing a fridge with your roommate, you may consider a larger one. Now, let’s talk about the fun part: features. Today’s mini refrigerators come with large freezers; ice shelves; automatic defrosters; can racks; stainless steel exteriors; gallon door storage units; shelves that are spill resistant; crispers and food separators; and tops that can be converted into counters.
Lastly, before you buy any fridge make sure that you read the dorm rules. Often, colleges will print rules regarding appliances, so comply or yours might be taken away.
Have fun looking through all of those great dorm refrigerators out there. If you choose the right one, you can be sure that your fridge will be a useful took while in school.
