Common Freezer Problems

There are many common freezer problems that you might come across some day. Learning about these issues before they happen is a great way to prepare yourself for things to come.

If you are in the midst of a freezer issue right now, this article will help you figure out what is happening inside of that ice box. If you just want to learn about common freezer problems, you too have come to the right place. Where should we begin…let’s start with the number one complaint from all homeowners when it comes to their freezer: why isn’t the freezer working? Well, if you have already checked to make sure that the unit is plugged in (it happens), then it’s time to do a bit of troubleshooting.

The first place to look is your outlet. Find a portable appliance (a hair dryer works well), and plug it into the same outlet that your freezer is plugged into. If the dryer does not turn on, the problem is the outlet not the freezer. If there is no power to the unit at all, flip your breaker switch. If you do have some kind of power (is the fan working? Is the light inside the unit on?), then you might have a cooling issue. Place a thermometer inside of the unit, wait a few hours, and see what the temperature reads. Your thermometer should read zero degrees Celsius after twenty-four hours. If it doesn’t reach this temperature, the unit itself needs a bit of repair.

Another popular complaint is: why doesn’t the freezer freeze? Well, since freezing food is the number one thing that a freezer should do, this problem is understandably frustrating. The easiest thing that you can do is to set the thermostat inside of the unit to a cooler setting. If this method fails, check the defrost timer by moving it manually with a screwdriver. Sometimes, freezers get stuck in the defrost cycle, though changing it manually should help. Lastly, you can check the wiring outside of the freezer. If a break in the wiring has occurred, the freezer will stop working. These common freezer problems may be the one that is haunting your freezer. If not, call a repair man…they generally know how to fix any issue within a matter of moments.

Refrigerators and freezers are some of the most dependable appliances that you will ever purchase. When these two things stop working, the best thing to do is try and troubleshoot for awhile. After a few hours of tinkering with your freezer, make sure to call a repair man. Prior to any kind of repair, make sure to remove your food and place it within a cool area until the freezer is fixed.

There are numerous common freezer problems out there, though the two mentioned above are the most popular. Take the time to find the problem, and your freezer will last for many years to come.
