Cleaning Refrigerator Drain Tube

Since most people today have self-cleaning refrigerators, many never even think of cleaning refrigerator drain tube until it becomes an obvious problem.

If you find that there is a large puddle of water gathering inside of you fridge, you might be dealing with a clogged drain. The good news is that you won’t have to call a professional repair man in order to fix this problem. Instead, all you really need is some stiff wire and a bit of warm water filled with dish soap. The directions below should only be followed once you have successfully turned off the electricity. Never try and cleaning refrigerator drain tube while the fridge is still operational.

To begin, find the drain hole (this is usually located at the bottom of the fridge). Then, take the plugs out of the drain tube. Next, place the wire into the tube moving it around to remove any build-up. Finally, clean the tube with a good amount of soapy water. Allow the tube to dry thoroughly before plugging the fridge back into the outlet. Once the drain is dry, put the plugs back in place. These steps should clear up that water problem in no time. If not, try again making sure that you have removed all of the debris inside of the tube.

Since you will be cleaning refrigerator drain tube, why not clean the drain pain as well? The drain pan can be found underneath the fridge, and all it takes to clean it is a bit of that soapy water. If you cannot find the pan or the tube, take a look at the manufacturer’s directions. All fridge manuals should tell you where to locate the drainage parts. While some refrigerator repairs require a repair person, most of them can be solved on your own. If you find that the problem persists, you may then have to call that professional repair man.



Although we may not think about kitchen appliances daily, they must be taken care of carefully in order to ensure longevity. Just a few moments of your time can really help your appliances to last for a number of years.

Cleaning refrigerator drain tube is an easy thing to do, but it is also something that can extend the life of your fridge. Since appliances are expensive, it only makes sense to take care of them as long as you can.
