Clean Refrigerator Coils

There are some things that you probably think about on a consistent basis, but clean refrigerator coils are probably not one of them. The truth is that it should be on the top of that list…here’s why.

If you neglect to clean refrigerator coils at least twice a year, you can be sure that your fridge will go through an electronic melt down. You see, there are all kinds of dust bunnies, dirt, and debris that collect behind your fridge. If these things are not cleared away consistently, they will make their way up into the unit causing a large amount of damage. Also, your fridge will not be as efficient without that semi-annual cleaning.

The good news is that cleaning behind that fridge is really easy to do. To begin, move the fridge away from the wall after it has been unplugged. If you have a built-in model, turn off the circuit breaker. Then, remove the back cover panel in order to see the coils behind the fridge. Most of the time, this panel will just lift off, though some models might require the removal of a few small screws. Now, take your vacuum cleaner, and find the attachment that will allow the hose to reach into the fridge. Once this is done, simply put the panel back in place, and turn the fridge back on.

As far as appliances go, refrigerators are known for being the most dependable appliance out there. Still, sometimes these units can fail causing large amounts of food spoilage. While you can’t prevent larger problems, you can certainly prevent dust and debris build-up. Remember to clean your fridge twice per year in order to keep it running smoothly. In fact, nearly every appliance inside of your home can be cleaned by moving it away from the wall. Just remember to unplug all appliances before you decide to clean them.

Most of us tend to plug appliances in, place them against the wall, and forget about them for many years. Even though those large piles of dust and debris are out of sight, they are still piling up on a regular basis.

Take the time to clean refrigerator coils, and save the life of your appliance. It might just take a few moments of your time, but it will be more than worth it in the end.
