Tax Benefit of Buying Energy Star Dishwashers

You may have heard about the tax benefit of buying energy star dishwashers, but this new law should be completely understood prior to replacing all old appliances.

First of all, let’s get to the definition behind the tax benefit of buying energy star dishwashers. This type of tax benefit comes in the form of a tax credit. Unless you are familiar with tax terms, you may not know what a tax credit entails. A tax credit is not the same thing as a tax deduction. The main difference is that a tax credit comes from the amount of taxes that are due, while a tax deduction tends to come from the amount of taxable income that you are allotted. In short, a tax credit is a better way to deal with the tax man.

Recently, the United States government has come to the conclusion that certain household items are now eligible for tax credits. There are a lot of rules to read up on regarding the specific products that fall within this new category. However, most of the products that can gain a tax credit tend to be cooling and heating products. Those tax credits that are applicable to energy efficient products tend to go to the manufacturer of the product…not the consumer. This means that you may not get a credit when you buy a new washing machine, dryer, or refrigerator, but the manufacturer of the product will get that tax credit. So, this is good news it you are a manufacturer, but this new law won’t affect any consumers. Well, not directly anyway…

So, what is the tax benefit of buying energy star dishwashers? Well, there isn’t one really. The consumer benefit of purchasing energy efficient appliances has to do with the lower electricity bill that you will pay. If you are in the market for a new heater or air conditioner, then you may be eligible for a tax credit. Otherwise, you won’t receive a tax credit or deduction of any kind if you purchase a home appliance. Of course, the idea behind rewarding the manufacturer is that they will pass the savings on to you. In short, shop for the appliance that will save you the most amount of money when it comes to energy and sticker price, but don’t count on Uncle Sam to reward you as a consumer.

Saving money on your energy bill is a great idea. If you want to help the environment, lower your energy bill, and purchase an appliance that is perfect for your home and lifestyle, searching for an energy efficient appliance is a palatable option. Thankfully, there are lots of these products on the market today, so finding the right one for you shouldn’t be difficult.

Just remember, when it comes to the tax benefit of buying energy star dishwashers, this is one benefit that goes directly to the manufacturer. Still, it doesn’t mean that you won’t benefit from purchasing energy efficient appliances in the long run.
