Dishwasher Won't Drain

If your dishwasher won't drain, don’t call that repairman just yet. Instead, save yourself a bundle of money by trying these do-it-yourself tips.

Usually if your dishwasher won't drain it is due to two things. Either there is a massive amount of food and debris clogging the drainage basket, or the food is stuck inside of the drain hose. Try both of the following trouble shooting tips in order to fix that dishwasher without paying an arm and a leg. Prior to fixing your machine, make sure to shut off any electricity running to the machine…just in case you hit the start button by mistake while you are inside of it.

If the machine is currently filled with water, you will have to bail out the water using a bucket. Once that has been completed, you will have to find a wrench that can loosen the basket bolts. Once you have successful loosened those screws, you can take out the basket and clean it. You will find that the basket is full of grime and build-up, but you can wash this all away with soapy water. After you have replaced the basket, try to run the machine again. If it doesn’t work this time, the problem is with the drain hose.

It is not recommended that you pry open the drain hose, since you can permanently damage it. Instead, try shaking and jiggling the hose in order to loosen any possible build-up or air inside of it. Then, run the machine once more. If this doesn’t work, you might have to call that repairman after all. However, most people find that cleaning the basket will result in a machine that works. Since dishwashers have to rinse away all of that food every day, they are bound to be caught up in food particles a few times. All you need is a good wrench and a bit of know-how in order to fix that machine. If your dishwasher won't drain, try the steps mentioned above.

Most home appliances can be fixed on your own with a bit of research, and a good tool box nearby. If you have all the tools that you need, you will find that most solutions can be found on the internet.

That dishwasher won't drain? Well, simply go through the steps listed above. If all else fails, you can call that repairman…though chances are that you won’t have to.
