Common Dishwasher Problems
You will find a lot of common dishwasher problems listed below. However, prior to beginning any type of appliance repair, it is important to consider safety first.
Unplug the dishwasher from the outlet or shut off the circuit prior to starting work. Also, turn off the heating supply valve that is underneath the sink prior to disconnecting the machine. Whatever you do, never work on the inside of the machine right after a cycle has just finished – following a cycle, various parts of the machine will be extremely hot. Now, let’s talk about those common dishwasher problems, and how you may be able to fix them.
One of the most common complaints is that a dishwasher is leaking water. If you find that your machine leaks water every time you run it, you might be using the wrong type of soap. Try to use less soap than you normally do, and see if this will stop the leaking issue. If not, you might be loading too many dishes inside of your machine at once. An improperly loaded machine will often cause leaks around the door vent area. Also, you may find that a door gasket or the door tightness needs to be fixed, which would explain water leaking around the door. Lastly, check around the bottom of the machine – is it starting to corrode? If so, it’s time to purchase a new machine.
Another popular complaint is that dishes aren’t washed well enough. If you find that your dishes are less than spotless you might be loading the machine incorrectly. Try not to block the spray arms with dishes while loading. You may also want to have the water pressure inside of your home checked. Sometimes low water pressure will result in dishes that are not properly washed. These are the most common dishwasher problems out there, but there are many more. Most of the time, people tend to use the wrong amount of soap or they tend to load the machine incorrectly.
Try playing around with the amount of soap that you put inside of machine. Also, be sure that you are loading the machine properly every time. If these adjustments do not make any difference you may be dealing with a larger problem.
When in doubt about common dishwasher problems, call the repairman. Sometimes, it pays to have your appliances looked at by a professional the first time around.
